Chevy S-10 Has Electrical Problems

Q. Hi, I have a 1996 Chevy S-10 without A/C. My question is this, once in a while if I have my fan on one of the three lower speeds it will stop working and the ABS/Brake light comes on. Then in a while the fan will start working again and the ABS/Brake light goes out. I have replaced the relay and the fan resistor, the motor sounds good. What's next, exorcism?

Chevy S-10 Has Electrical Problems

A. Sounds like you may be losing ground in the fan circuit causing the blower motor to look for ground elsewhere. You'll need a schematic to trace and locate all the grounds involved. You can start by looking at the ones you can see easily. Look under the hood at the frame rails and sheet metal for grounds and make sure they all are clean and tight.

When it does this you could also try banging on the dash and wiggle the wire harness to see if you can isolate where the problem is. There could also be melted wires at the fan switch connection and if the wires got hot enough they could have merged onto another wire like the ABS light. Good luck!
