Pontiac Grand Am Misfiring

Q. I have a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am GT 3.4 liter V-6 automatic transmission with 61,062 miles. I have changed the spark plugs, ignition wires, and ignition coils due to a spitting and sputtering like a misfire. It started out that it was the # 4 Cylinder was misfiring, so the AutoZone guy said after hooking up the link to it.

But it still does it after changing everything. I have even changed the fuel filter. It doesn't do it all the time, spit and sputter. It will do it when the car gets to about normal running temperature and it will start and last for about 10 minutes.

It acts like there is a little water in the gas and it isn't sparking a cylinder and is causing a misfire. What do you think the problem is or where should I start?

Thank you,
R. Jones

A. GM has a special fuel injector cleaning procedure that should take care of this problem IF it's the injector being partially clogged. This procedure should bring the injectors back to "as new" condition. There are some tests that need to be done to make sure this is the problem. But it does sound like it to me.
