Buick LeSabre Won't Shift When Cold
Q. I own a 1993 Buick LeSabre Limited Edition, V-6. I bought the car with a transmission problem. This is the problem. When the car is first started it will not immediately engage into the drive mode, however, if you let it warm up to a certain temperature it will go and shift with no problems.
As long as the car is at a certain temperature the transmission has no difficulty or when first starting if you bypass drive and put it in 1st gear (low) she goes. is this odd? And do you think it is possible pressure with the fluid needing to be at temperature? What are your thoughts?
Thanks for any input.
RandyA. Sounds like a bad clutch pack or seal inside the transmission. It could be a valve body problem as well. First make sure there are no trouble codes stored, not sure if this is a full electronic transmission or not.
If a transmission shop wants to go inside for a look, think about a GM remanufactured unit called a SERTA replacement transmission. They are usually very good with all recent updated parts and come with a strong GM warranty.
