Ford Ranger Clutch

Q. I have a 1989 ford ranger 4x4 long bed truck. It has a 2.9 liter V6 engine. It's a 5 speed with reverse. The clutch went out and it is hydraulic and I don't know how to put a new one in. Can you help me?

A. From the tone of your letter, I get the sense that you know how to install a new clutch, but never installed one with a hydraulic actuator.

If this is indeed the case, have no fear, the clutch gets installed the same as any other clutch. You just have two bolts holding the clutch slave cylinder on and all you need to do is remove it and tie it up out of the way. When you are done, just bolt it back in place. It's self adjusting so you don't have to worry about that.

If anything, it's easier than one with a manual clutch linkage.
