Questions and Answers

Ford Windstar DTC U1262 And U1027

Q. I am receiving the following DTC's:

  • U1262 - SCP (J1850) Communication Bus Fault
  • U1027 - SCP (J1850) Invalid or Missing Data for Engine RPM
Ford Windstar DTC U1262 And U1027

1. Is there an common failure that usually causes these codes (so that I could replace the failed component and be reasonably assured that would solve the problem)?

2. What is does the J1850 mean?

3. Are there any TSB's related to this problem? By the way, where is a good site to access Ford TSB's?

4. Finally, I'm also getting "system to lean" DTC's on both banks (PO174 and PO174). Are the first set of DTC's related to the second set, or are these two separate/different problems?

  • 1999 Ford Windstar
  • 3.8 liter engine
  • Automatic transmission
  • 130,000 miles
  • Fuel Injection
  • P/S, A/C, Cruise control
  • Rack and pinion steering

Thank you very much...

A. 1. U1027 indicates no RPM data is being received by the ABS Control Module. DTC U1262 indicates a problem with the Multiplex Communication Network. This is something Ford will have to repair. I don't know if it's a common failure, but this is the second DTC U1262 I got this week.

2. J1850 is the standard for an automotive Local Area Network (in the car) adopted by the The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE).

3. None that I have seen. You can get the TSB titles from Alldata or Technical Service Bulletins.

4. Common problem and unrelated to the U DTCs.
