Ready, Aim, Firing Order!

Monday March 3, 2008
Quick tip for keeping your spark plug firing order intact when installing new spark plugs or distributor cap: Do it one wire at a time!

Unfortunately we often find this kind of advice when we're trying to figure out how to undo a bad situation. In other words, you found out too late. You'll know you screwed it up by the fact that your car won't start at all, or starts and runs like junk. In a worst case scenario, you'll hear what sounds like a gun shot as your car backfires thanks to a bad firing sequence. If that's the case, you'll need a place to reliably look up your car's firing order to get back on the road. What can I say? We aim to please. If you can get your car running again without having to write a check, it's a good day under the shade tree.

Check out the Firing Order Reference pages to learn about your car.
