This Guy Gets the Dumb Award
There are a lot of tools and other items that should not be used to facilitate an auto repair. At the top of this list, right next to dynamite and Crisco, is the shotgun, but don't try to tell one Seattle area resident. If you look at the details of the case, you can sympathize with the 66-year-old man's frustration. According to The Seattle Times, a Sherriff's Deputy reported that the guy had been working on his Lincoln Continental for 2 weeks, but had only managed to get four of the five lug nuts removed. Two weeks and he's still working the lug nuts? That's a serious lack of steady progress. Determined to get that last lug removed, he decided to use the most persuasive thing most of us could think of, the shotgun.
The arm's length blast didn't get that last lug off, but he sustained some serious injuries in his attempt. We suggest you try a little more sane method of removing a stuck lug nut. You'll actually get it loosened, and with far less pain. Since most of you are probably wondering, the Deputy made sure to add that the man was not intoxicated. This one came straight from the judgment part of his brain.

I have had a few nuts and bolts that I felt like taking a shotgun to in the past.
any lug nuts that are hard to get off may facture in the stud can brake off
some marine grease on the studs worth its weight in gold. they say that bolts may come loose never had any come loose in 40 years. and use a torque wrench .retired auto tech
I’m surprised that someone didn’t think of this before me. All you do when the last nut won’t come off is replace the ones that are off, taking the extreme pressure off the problem one. (a problem you created by not loosening all of them a bit when you started)
I had a flat tire and the teen ager that put them on used an air inpact wrench. I had to drive on the flat for two miles to a garage to remove it. I check them now when i buy new tires.
I also understand where this guy was coming from, but instead of grabbing a firearm, which by the way my wife usually keeps under lock and key when I am working on a vehicle, I usually grab a cutting torch. Cut them buggers off and replace the studs and usually the wheel later.
See Ya in the Hills!
NO TORCH IS NEEDED AND ABSULTILY NO GUNS .Just a leverage pipe on the half inch breaker bar,PRESTO man is stronger than steel. replace rotor when needed.with my wallet its when you can hear me stop a mile away.good luck all, life is to short to get overly fustrated.
