I had an old Datsun 240Z that I loved, but in the summer with the aftermarket AC on it would always get too hot, and I’d have to be really careful about how hard I drove it. It turned out to be a combination of a slightly damaged cooling fan (on the crank) and a faulty thermostat.

After fixing the thermostat and replacing the old school fan with a modern electric fan setup, I saw a dramatic difference in reliability and was happy to be able to run it like crazy again! At the time I was a little bit of a novice car guy. Now I’ve used sites like About.com and others to get more educated. It helps you when you need to talk to a mechanic. It’s empowering really.

Never neglect your cooling system. It will only help speed the aging of your engine and could lead to serious issues down the road. Thanks for the article!
