Free AC Check, Why Not?

By June 3, 2009

Follow me on:

One of our customers recently asked for advice regarding an offer for a free air conditioning check at a local auto repair chain. This happened to be a popular chain of muffler shops, but I've seen similar offers at all kinds of shops. She was wondering whether these offers were tricks to charge you for something or if she could actually have her system looked over for no charge. The answer is yes, you can leave these shops with a free AC inspection. Of course they're going to try to sell you something, but that doesn't mean you have to buy it. Remember this however, if your AC was blowing cold, you probably don't need any additional freon. Of course the best way to assess the condition of your system is to test it yourself. A quick and inexpensive check will tell you if you have enough freon and if your system has a leak.

There are some other A/C components that need annual inspection asides from the loss of freon. Some vehicles drive the A/C comressor with a seperate belt, check it for cracks/fraying. You may also want to replace your cabin air filter(if equipped, check your owners manual).

Mr Wright, could you please mention sometimes AC compressor will not turn on due to low or high freon because of sensors or bad compressor leak= crossover. So could you please explain how to check pressure when compressor will not engage .

The first modern air conditioning system was developed in 1902 who was young electrical engineer. His name was Willis Haviland Carrier. It was designed to solve a humidity problem at the Sackett-Wilhelms Lithographing and Publishing Company in Brooklyn, N.Y. Paper stock at the plant would sometimes absorb moisture from the warm summer air. But some days before my Air conditioner give disturb & I want to repair it.For this region I call Air conditioner compain. The people of this compain is very good & their service also good.
