Elderly Scam Update: Suspect Sketches
Sunday September 7, 2008
Boulder police are hot on the tail of four suspects who are sought in the investigation of a particularly offensive auto repair scam. We first told you about the scam in a previous entry and now the police have released sketches of four suspects. It may seem like overkill for there to be so much energy and so many resources put toward solving this petty crime, but when you victimize the members of our communities who should be most respected, people get upset. Check out the original piece for details on the crimes. You can also check out a closer look at those suspect sketches to be sure that isn't your uncle or cousin out there perpetrating.

I personally think it’s great that the police are making this so big. People get scammed just about everyday in the automotive repair industry but it rarely gets publicized. This kind of exposure is a step in the right direction.
Ah! Those pictures look like my previous employees. Just kidding.
In all seriousness, I am glad to see that the police have these sketches and are on their way to solving this crime.

Really appreciate having stories like this posted since the “mass media” only gives us the high profile news. This is information that all of us can use.
You should never ever have repairs done to your car without a written estimate. Honestautoestimates.com conducted a survey and found that as much as 64% of people authorized repairs without a written estimate. These guys took advantage of that! Thanks for exposing this issue!
