Don't Make it a Blunderland

Saturday February 2, 2008
Snow's pretty, right? There's nothing like looking out the window and gazing across a beautiful winter wonderland. Even if you live in snow country, that fresh first snow never seems to get old. Want to see it get real old? One false move behind the wheel and your wonderland just became a blunderland. Ask seasoned snow drivers, and they'll all tell you that snow tires are a good idea if you plan to do any winter weather driving.

Are you a doubter? I've met plenty. They think 4-wheel drive and snow tires are for whimps and the overly-concerned. Unfortunately those are the same bunch who end up backwards and upside down on a snowy road. If you need any more convincing, check out Aaron's Snow Tire Q&A for some compelling information. Or you could crank it up, hit the gas, and hope for the best. But you'll probably end up like that poor SUV.

(1) Dwayne Harman says:

A note on 4-wheel drive vehicles:

Many people obtain a false sense of security when driving a vehicle with 4-wheel drive. Driving a car which has 4-wheel or AWD capabilities doesn’t mean that one should be reckless on the roads. I always tell my customers to play it safe in the snow, regardless of vehicle type. AWD doesn’t mean: “Anywhere Will Drive!”
