He Likes His U-Haul Shaken, Not Stirred

Sunday December 16, 2007
More winter weather woes. There are hundreds of stories, photos, advice and other information circulating to tell you why you need to be safe if you find yourself driving in adverse winter conditions. All of them are right, of course, but like many things it doesn't hit home until you see it first hand. I saw this upside down U-Haul while driving on the Interstate in upstate New York. The road conditions were bad, but certainly not the worst any of us has seen on TV. There were drivers going 55 mph on the slightly snowy road, stupid drivers. We saw at least five badly damaged cars that had bounced off the center guard rail in a sideways slide. This story really has no point other than to remind you to be very careful if you find yourself on the road when the white stuff is falling. It takes only the smallest amount of snow or ice to make the road surface treacherous. Just ask the guy with the rented U-Haul turned blender. For the record, he was fine. That's him standing next to the truck making a cell phone call. I hope he bought the supplemental insurance.
