Don't Forget To Wipe!
My state of Blizzard bliss came to a quick end when she started poking at me from the driver's seat. I have to ask my women readers, what is it about marriage that greatly strengthens your poking fingers? My wife's poking finger is like an iron cattle prod when she has a point to make. Anyway, the poking started, followed by a burning question: "Matt, did you replace the windshield wipers this spring?" Ouch. The answer was "no," and boy was she paying for it. It was raining hard and steady. The view through the windshield looked more like Dali's rendition of a tractor trailer fleet than a highway.
So why hadn't I replaced the wipers? Aren't you supposed to replace them when warm weather returns? My answer is the same as most. You only think about replacing your windshield wipers when the skies open up, not on those sunny days that would be perfect for completing a little summer auto maintenance. Look out the window this weekend, and if the weather's nice, go ahead and get it done. Your ribcage will thank you for sparing it thirteen well-poked bruises.

Just replaced my blades on an 05 Dodge Caravan. 28 inches long. Expensive. What happened to the old wipers where just the rubber could be replaced?
I think those MUCH cheaper blade refills are history. It seems we’d rather pay more so that we can do less, and the full blade replacements are a little less tricky and time consuming to install.
I need help. 97 Subaru, Imp. door lite stays on. No one knows how to fix this and there’s no after market guide books. Not listed in car manual either. Door jams are fine, so what else should I look for? Thanks
Yes, you should replace the blades when they start showing some problems. But, for rain, why not use Rain-X? Properly applied to a VERY clean windshield and reinforced using Rain-X windshield washer fluid you can mostly forget about the wipers. In fact, you’ll probably be like me and hate to use the wipers, as is required when traffic is throwing up dust encrusted water.
Amen to the rain X. Great stuff. In mild rain, I seldom use my wipers it works so good.
Ref. to Bucking Ram with the 1998 Dodge Ram with suspected transmission problem.
We had same problem…..started at 60,000 miles , torque converter lock-up problem…..caused by alternator sending out signal because the brushes inside the alternater become worn….buy new alternater OR wrap the wire that goes from the alternater to the battery, (it is a tan and black striped wire)with aluminum foil and then put black electrician’s tape around the aluminum foil….this will block the signal the alternator is putting out…..If Bucking Ram has a torque converter lock-problem, this will fix it……
